We brew a better world by 2030

For more than fifteen years now, the global sustainability strategy Brew a Better World has had a strong impact on HEINEKEN's business operations. It encouraged us to innovate and cooperate in environmental protection, help local communities and make a positive impact on society - but also to support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Our examples of sustainability and corporate social responsibility

For responsible youth

As a producer of alcoholic beverages, we are aware of our responsibility, and as part of the Brew a Better World sustainability strategy, we actively promote responsible alcohol consumption. Our position is that minors should not consume alcohol. The main goals of the project are to draw attention and educate parents about the harmful consequences of underage alcohol consumption, and to provide support in setting boundaries and establishing good communication between parents and children.

Environmental and nature protection

We are proud of the great efforts and considerable financial investments in this area, as well as that in HEINEKEN Hrvatska we have reduced CO2 emissions by over 60% compared to 2008. The fact that we intensively use energy from renewable sources certainly contributed to this. First, in 2017 we started using electricity from renewable sources ZelEn, and one year later we installed 1,380 solar panels on the roof of our new warehouse, built according to more environmentally friendly principles. They reduce CO2 emissions by more than 118 tons during the annual production of 395,000 kWh of electricity. The introduction of electric forklifts and LED lighting in production facilities, the use of biogas, as by-product of water purification, in production and partially for heating, as well as the automation of the boiler room led to additional energy efficiency, savings and a reduction in emissions. We are also proud of the fact that we have continuously been reducing the total amount of municipal waste.

Cooperation with the local community

The connection of the brewery in Karlovac with the City and the entire Karlovac region is truly inseparable - the vast majority of our employees come from this region, but in addition to economic development, we also support numerous local cultural, art and sports events. They include Beer Festival, City Days, Folklore Festival, Midsummer Bonfire, River Cinema with Karlovačko, Karlovac Cener, and our role as a good neighbour also comes to light within the KAkvart project. As part of it, in partnership and synergy with the City of Karlovac and numerous volunteers, during eight years we realized alsmost two hundred projects that further enhanced the look of the city, and made life in this area more attractive and pleasant.
